Welcome to Pitho Maine
Coons
Pitho Maine Coons is a small, loving and serious
cattery - we are located in Northern part of Jutland. We have had Maine
Coons since 1998 and have been showing our cats since 2002 - our first
litter arrived february 2005. Up until May 2009 we were members of JYRAK
and therefore breeders under FIFe, but for quite some time we had been
thinking about switching, which is why we chose to become members of
TICA
and
Viking Cats
instead.
Our cattery name Pitho is registred in both
FIFe and
TICA.
Our main goal is to
breed loving, healthy and
well typed Maine Coons. We have our
breeding cats screened for HCM on a regular basis, meaning every second
year or more often - we also DNA test all our breeding cats - and
kittens if required - for the MYBPC3 mutation. We test the cats that are
negative for the mutation twice to check if they actually are
negative - this way we don't feel the need to test kittens from a mating
between two negative cats. We don't test the heterozygote positive ones
twice, because their offspring will be tested anyway and these positive
cats are only bred to negative cats. Our kittens are all registred in
TICA
and
sold with a sales contract - and of course only
for good loving homes, approved by us!! Our kittens are among us and have, more or less, access to the
whole house - when they are old enough, of course. They grow up together with the rest of our cats and our
two dogs - and of course us :-) The cats also have access to the whole
house and our 1100 squaremeters fenced-in
garden.
Kittens from us are all
chipmarked and vaccinated against
Feline Panleukopenia and Cat flu - and kittens sold as pets are also spayed or
neutered before they leave our home. This often brings out lots of
opinions, both pros and cons, but our experience is that the kittens get
well much easier than an older cat does. And one doesn't need to worry about a
young female all of a sudden gets pregnant or that the males start
spraying. So this is something we have
decided and it's not up for discussion.
We show our cats, both in Denmark, but also abroad.
Mostly on TICA shows, but sometimes we are at FIFe shows as well. We
show for
the fun of it and to meet others cat fanciers, but also to keep up with
the development of the breed and to make sure that our cats and
kittens are well typed. This makes us aware of our cats' strengths and
weaknesses. This way we also feel that we can plan our matings to
acchieve the type we prefer. Normally we will only make a combination once, but several things can be
reason that we do repeat a certain combination.
If you have any
questions, want to kno more about our cats or just want to chat about
the cats, do feel free to contact us. We are always up for a cat-chat
:-)
